A meeting was held between college’s academic and administrative staff on the first day of the new academic year 2023/2024, which took place on Sunday, 01 Oct 2023. The meeting included a welcome speech from the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Fadia Mayas.

A delegation from the Faculty of Pharmacy - Yarmouk University, headed by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Mervat Al-Sous, and a number of faculty members participated in the activities of the conference, which was held from 7-8 June.

During the conference Dr. Ali Hmedat presented a scientific paper on the sidelines of the conference.

Under the supervision of Dr. Derar Al- Omari, Dr. Meriem Rezigue and Dr. Hadeia Mashaqbeh, the faculty of pharmacy at Yarmouk university regulated a scientific visiting into The Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR)  that is located in the campus of Jordan University of Science and Technology at Al-Ramtha city in northern Jordan on 10-1-2023. 

The visit aimed to enhance the knowledge of the students toward the reactor and how it is enrolled in the course of Advanced pharmaceutical technology to the methods of manufacturing the radiopharmaceuticals.

As a part of his tour at Yarmouk University, which was organized in cooperation with the Tourism Promotion Authority at the Ministry of Tourism and included medical colleges and various facilities at Yarmouk University, Dr. Qasim Younis, a Palestinian dentist and influencer, visited the College of Pharmacy with the aim of encouraging educational tourism and to attract Palestinian students to study in the pharmacy program.

A brief presentation of the college’s history, achievements, programs, and teaching plans were proposed by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Fadia Mayas and faculty members. Also means of cooperation and the possibility of attracting students to the international program at the College of Pharmacy at Yarmouk University were discussed. The visit included an introductory tour of the college’s facilities, including teaching and research halls and laboratories, smart halls, in addition to the simulated pharmacy.

At the end of the meeting Dr. Qasim Younis expressed his great admiration for the college building, its program, plans, and achievements.

It is worth noting that the vision of Yarmouk University and its strategic plan aims to attract the largest possible number of students from various countries to be enrolled in different programs as the university decided to treat new international program students the same as Jordanian students in the parallel program for accepted students, starting from the first semester of this academic year.

2023/2024.

The training committee of the college of Pharmacy at Yarmouk University held a practical clinical skill exam for the students of the training course on Sunday 28 th of May 2023.

The third scientific conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy, "Modern Trends in Pharmaceutical Research" was held on the ninth and tenth days of May, and was inaugurated by the president of Yarmouk University, Dr. Islam Massad. Attended Participants were academics, specialized experts, and representatives from partner sectors like the Ministry of Health, Royal Medical Services, the Jordan Pharmacists Association, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, and the King Hussein Cancer Center. The conference included an exhibition for several companies and drug stores. Pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, pharmaceutics, nanotechnology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacognosy were among the other scientific topics covered. A contest for the best scientific poster was also held by the conference committee. The competition featured a large number of postgraduate students from several Jordanian universities. At the close, Prof. Mervat Al-Sous, the dean of pharmacy, presented awards to the top three competitors. Maram Ali Al-Hasban from Zarqa Private University won first prize with her poster, " Evaluation of a Novel Niosomal Anticancer Formulation of Metformin/Celecoxib in in Vitro Breast Cancer Model The second place was won jointly by: Alaa Aziz Abu Dayyeh from the Jordan University of Science and Technology with a poster entitled: Brain Targeting with Nasal Delivery: Enhanced Docetaxel Delivery using Mucoadhesive Coated PLGA Nanoparticles. While Rahma Hussein Al-Shaboul from Yarmouk University with a poster entitled: Study the effect of pain relief medications (Tramadol and Pregabalin) on the gene expression of ABC transporters (ABCB1 and the ABCG2) in mesocorticolimbic regions.

The third place went to Razan Ezzat Nassar from the Applied Science Private University for the poster that was presented under the title: Development and validation of the adherence to asthma medications Questionnaire.

A fruitful partnership between the faculty of pharmacy presented by the faculty dean Prof. Mervat Alsous and the Continuity Company for Software and Information Technology was established. The faculty was granted the updated version of Galaxy management software, which is considered one of the most important pharmacy management programs in Jordan for more than 25 years. This aims to train out students to use the same software established in many community pharmacies and to better qualify them for the labor market.

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mervat Al-Sous the Faculty of Pharmacy has held an oath-taking ceremony for their graduate students which also included the graduation books ceremony on 5/23/2023 in the auditorium of the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy. The ceremony was initiated by a speech from the dean of the faculty then a speech from the assistant dean for student affairs Dr. Rawan Sharideh, and the valedictorian speech. The ceremony was attended by students expected to graduate and a number of faculty members in the college who shared some advice with their students on how to make the most out of the upcoming stage.

The Social Committee at the Faculty of Pharmacy held a meeting for the academic and technical staff in order to exchange congratulations on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. The meeting included a welcome speech from the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Mervat Alsous, who welcomed the attendees and briefed the staff on the most important achievements and activities carried out by the Faculty of Pharmacy.
