The academic and administrative staff at the College of Pharmacy at Yarmouk University, represented by its Dean, Professor Dr. Fadia Mayas, arranged a meeting on the occasion of the beginning of the second semester of the academic year and during the meeting, Ms. Iman El Sayed was honored and congratulated on the occasion of the end of her distinguished service, which lasted for 30 years at Yarmouk University, including five years with us at the Faculty of Pharmacy. We wish her further success and prosperity in the future stage.

Congratulations for Dr. Ghinaa Abu Diab from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy for her appointment as the Head of the Collaboration and Partnership Department at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Yarmouk University.

In line with Yarmouk University’s vision and strategic plan to enhance the community partnerships and within the initiatives of the Faculty of Pharmacy to serve the local community. The faculty organized an awareness school campaign entitled “Your Awareness Protects You” at Edison Model School in Irbid. The campaign was supervised by Dr. Ghina’a Abu Deiab from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Phytochemistry, with the participation of a group of faculty members and fifth-year students.

The campaign included awareness-raising among high school students at Edison School about commonly used medications, that include painkillers, stimulants, and hypnotics. The campaign started with a lecture given by Dr. Ghina’a Abu Deiab on how to deal with common medications, their use, side effects, and risks. The school students were educated about the culture of searching for the optimal use of the medicines and the use of safe herbal alternatives. The doctor also explained how to read the internal medicinal leaflet and its sections to know about the appropriate doses according to different age groups and special medical conditions.

The campaign also included workshops and discussions by the faculty students about the groups of medications such as ibuprofen, caffeine, nicotine, and others. During which the school students learned about the reasons for using common medications, their harms, safe alternatives, and how to reduce them at this age stage through pictures and discussions.

The participation of Faculty of Pharmacy students in this campaign was a unique practical experience as community awareness about medicines.

Pharmacy students from the Medical Club at Yarmouk University, conducted a health awareness campaign for students of Al-Bab Al-Ali School in Irbid. They provided various informative guidelines related to healthy eating habits, personal hygiene during Ramadan, and the harmful effects of smoking in its various forms. Interactive lectures and informative booklets were delivered, which were well received by the students, leading to their active participation in the activity.

Congratulations to the student Abdullah Feras Shatnawi from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Yarmouk University (Class of 2021) for winning the gold medal in the Taekwondo championship for men's category.

Congratulations on this fantastic achievement wishing him all the best of luck and success in the upcoming Asian championship.

On Thursday, February 20, 2024, the second session of the Cell Culture Techniques course at Yarmouk University's Faculty of Pharmacy ended up. The closing ceremony was attended by Professor Fadia Mayyas, the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Abdel Basset Athamneh, the director of the Queen Rania Centre, Dr. Ali Hmeidat, the supervisor and teacher for the course, and the assistant dean for student affairs.

The course witnessed active participation from attendees who learned the fundamentals of handling and preserving natural and cancerous cells in the Cell and Tissue Culture Laboratory at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The course program included a series of lectures, videos, and practical sessions held in the college's classrooms and the cell culture laboratory. Participants conducted laboratory experiments under the supervision of Dr. Hmeidat and trainer Sondos Al-tahat.

At the end of the course, certificates were given to the participants. Dr. Mayyas expressed gratitude to Queen Rania Center, acknowledging their efforts, along with Dr. Hmeidat's, in organizing the course. The importance of conducting such courses was emphasized by Dr. Athamneh, who also thanked the Faculty of Pharmacy for their collaboration and organization. It's worth mentioning that this course was accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and equated to 30 training hours.

A new qualitative scientific article from the series of medical articles written by pharmacy students under the direct supervision of faculty members at the Faculty of Pharmacy, based on scientific sources and reliable studies under the title of "How Does Sadness Affect Your Health?"

The faculty organized a scientific workshop in cooperation with PharmaCure team entitled “Search Using Electronic Resources”. The workshop was delivered by Dr. Ghina’a Abu Deiab from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Phytochemistry. Dr. Ghina’a provided a detailed explanation of different types of electronic sources and methods of search using these resources. A number of students and research assistants attended the workshop. 

This workshop comes within a series of workshops launched by the team in cooperation with the Deanship of the faculty. The Dean, Prof. Fadia Mayas talked about the importance of this scientific lectures series in building and developing students’ scientific and research capabilities and the faculty support for such activities.

The opening of the second specialized training course entitled "Cell Culture Technology" at the Pharmacy College at Yarmouk University in collaboration with the Queen Rania Center. This course will be conducted over one week, during which participants will be provided with the fundamentals of cell culture techniques and taught the necessary basic skills and knowledge to conduct cultivation experiments. Additionally, important topics such as principles, techniques, and applications of basic cell culture, as well as cell preservation basics, including cell propagation, storage techniques, and growth monitoring, will be covered.

The course was inaugurated in the presence of the Dean of the Pharmacy College, Dr. Fadia Mayyas, the Director of the Queen Rania Center, Dr. Abdul Basit Athamneh, and several faculty members of the college.
